Walk with me to the top of Mt. Nebo. \u00a0Do you see the figure just ahead of us? \u00a0That is Moses. \u00a0You remember him don’t you? \u00a0He was once a prince of Egypt. \u00a0He had all the world at his disposal, but he chose his heritage over his worldly inheritance. \u00a0He chose his rage over his rational mind. \u00a0He gave it all up to become who he was from birth, a nomad, a shepherd.<\/p>\n
But, he came back to us. \u00a0As an old man, he took on Pharaoh and the slave owners. \u00a0He took on those who dared to wish for the known over the promised. \u00a0He was in the presence of God. \u00a0He was hidden by the hand that created the universe in the cleft of the rock. \u00a0He glowed with God’s grace. \u00a0Do you remember him now?<\/p>\n
Today he stands and gazes on what was promised. \u00a0He will never set foot on what he so desperately sought. \u00a0 All who knew him as a younger man have passed away. \u00a0Aaron and Hur who lifted him in battle have already passed. \u00a0Some would tell us that Moses was punished for his sin. \u00a0Some would say he was denied his greatest wish, his promise. \u00a0I want you to look closely at this old man leaning on the staff handed to him by God. \u00a0Do you see the smile? \u00a0He has fulfilled his journey.<\/p>\n
On this day, try to see the joy of Moses on the mountain. \u00a0His joy was in walking with God. \u00a0God thought so much of Moses that he personally buried him away from the hands of man. \u00a0My prayer is that you and I would live and lead as Moses lived and led. \u00a0May our joy be in the presence of God not the promised land of man’s reward.<\/p>\n
